We were looking forward to this for ages — partly because it’s Volksfling and partly because it’s the only VW event we can get to within an hours drive! Our CB arrived from Fleabay that morning and Raymond fitted it to the Pootle before we left — not much from the campervan channel (15), and nothing worth listening to on the scary ned channel (19). Need to retune the arial for our next trip!
Chris had already set up when we arrived so we parked thereabouts and put up our new awning, courtesy of Denbydub — thanks again guys! And our newly covered loo looked great in the awning.
As other club members arrived, we took a wee tour round the field to look at the rest of the vans, and headed over to the entertainment marquee. A wee bit quieter than the Friday last year but, as the sun was still shining, it wasn’t surprising that people were making the most of the warm, light night outside their own vans and tents. A wee shoogle to the ceilidh, and a couple of medicinal doubles and we went back to camp to sit with the others under the club event tent.

Saturday was a bit dreich. But when did that ever stop us enjoying camping? We wandered down to the club event tent — now pitched up in our club stand plot which Chris was getting organised, wandered about and just generally chatted to folk we had met at one event or another since we had bought the Pootle last February. Didn’t buy much, for a change — definitely need more ‘girl stuff’ to buy at next year’s show — spoke to Alex about that on the Monday and the committee are on it for next year : )
Dave Campbell had organised a glam party in the Route 9 tent, but we were a bit short for the dress code so opted for a bit of bbq and then headed over to the ents tent — another Volksfling and another night wi too much tae drink — as Stocky will confirm, we’re no big drinkers so it’s understandable really to get that wrecked in so short a time lol.

Sunday saw the cardboard car pile up and the chaos of the colouring comp (heckled by some parents at the judging — very stressful!). The weather was braw and everybody was really chilled and enjoying the doo. We stayed over til the Monday, as did quite a few other vans, making the most of the weather and the great weekend.

Although most folk would agree we need a bit more of a effort wi the club organising for next year, it was still a great event and we’re totally up for next year — might even organise a ‘girlie stuff’ stall and join in : )
