Volksfling at Biggar 2008

Volksfling was our first VW event and we had been looking forward to it for rmonths.  As it was only 30 miles from our house, it was an easy drive down through Lanark on the Friday night after work — with our friends, Neill and Soozie, planning to join us on the Saturday. As usual, we had no directions and had a bit of driving about to find the showground, though when we saw a couple of vans heading towards us we knew to double back and follow them up to the event.

Weekends away in the Pootle normally mean we are on Baywatch, and we usually spot one and maybe a couple of T25s each week. So when we pulled into Volksfling it was great to see loads of vans and other VWs parked up on site. Even if there had been no real event planned, it was still great to see all the vans together.

We parked up in the quiet area (quite accidentally) and spent a few hours in the beer tent. We both ended up hammered on cheap doubles (again, quite accidentally) but had a great laugh and the people were all friendly.

Saturday morning started with the baked potato van generator and a quick text to Neill and Soozie to ‘bring paracetemol’. At least the sun was coming out and the stalls were open for a browse.  Raymond bought a great, retro radio. Still needs a bit of work on the volume control — at the moment it’s either no sound at all or a blaring riot — but it looks great in the Pootle.

Saturday lunchtime and Neill and Soozie arrived with their friend Beavis and Soozie’s daughter Ailee. Beavis had just bought a tiny Turtle caravan which attracted loads of attention to our wee encampment. Neill and Soozie set up their hair braid stall and we went off again for a wander round the site to check out the vans. Saturday night was a bit more respectable with just a few drinks and some late night radio 2 lol.

Sunday passed at the same leisurely rate as before and we reluctantly headed home to the bad kitties early evening. Would have been great to stay on til the Monday, but no Bank Holiday day off for us : (

Cant wait til Vanfest, our next VW event. Next year we are definitely planning to book holidays round the VW scene.
